‘Zack and Miri Make a Porno’, Kevin Smith’s new movie opened Friday, pushing some if not a whole lot of buttons, as newspapers, TV stations and billboard owners refused to run ads with the full title, while Utah chain Megaplex Theatres even refused to screen the comedy.

With a storyline as conventional as they come, the comedy is about two childhood friends Zack and Miri, whose platonic relationship has them living together as roommates.  They both have jobs, yet are as poor as church mice and barely able to scrape together their rent money.  However, their electricity being cut off during the holiday season and a chance meeting with Long and Routh at a high school reunion shows them a way out of their dilemma.
 
In order to raise some rent money, they hit upon the novel idea of getting into the adult-entertainment business and decide to produce a homemade porn film, only to realize that their years of friendship have really been leading up to a love affair.  Nothing fresh about the movie and it seems ‘Chasing Amy’ was Smith’s one legitimately great movie.

If, the title of the movie misleads you and you are expecting some naughty fun, you can forget about it as Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks could be the only porn stars, whose naughty bits the audience doesn’t get to see.  Rogen and Banks may have been prepared to shoot without clothes, however, perhaps uncomfortable seeing them naked, Smith told the pair they would not have to disrobe, as only close-ups of their faces would be shot.

It may be termed a romantic comedy, but there won’t be any tittering in the aisles while watching ‘Zack and Miri Make a Porno’.  As for the romance, you’ve seen it all before, the best friends turned lovers theme that’s been done to bits!
