Yahoo to scrap seven services

Yahoo to scrap seven servicesInternet giant, Yahoo has said that it is planning to scrap a total of seven services as part of the company's regular efforts to evaluate and review its product line-up.

Chief Executive Marissa Mayer is most likely following the footsteps of Google in eliminating all of its unsuccessful product offerings. The company announced its decision to scrap seven services on its official blog on Friday claiming that it is part of a regular review of the products offered by the company to its customers. The company wrote that it will stop various services including Yahoo Avatars, Yahoo App Search, Yahoo Sports IQ, Yahoo Clues, the Yahoo Message Boards website and the Yahoo Updates API.

The scrapping will be the company's second such shutdown of services since Mayer took over the troubled internet company in July. Mayer has been working as the Web-search executive at Google for a long time and has brought deep technology experience. Yahoo's board members had made sure that the company finds a product expert indicating that the company might return to its internet roots.

It is believed that the company is planning to reduce the number of mobile apps from 60 to 75at present to just 12 to 15 apps, which can be managed in a much better manner. The company said that its app for BlackBerry phones will no longer be available for download form 1 April, 2013.
