World chess champion Viswanathan Anand meets PresidentC
New Delhi, Oct 16 : Newly crowned world chess champion Viswanathan Anand met President Pratibha Patil here on Monday.
Anand, who was accompanied by his wife Aruna, showed his medal to Patil.
“It's a great feeling. I'm very honoured to have met the President. She had followed the tournament Mexico. I was thrilled, it was a great honour for me,” he said.
Anand, 37, won the championship in Mexico after defeating Vladimir Kramnik of Russia.
Anand regained the world title after seven years with an unbeaten run in the tournament.
Anand won the world junior title in 1989 and became India's first Grand Master at the age of 16. (ANI)
