Caroline DeWaegeneire sought help after she noticed discoloration on her labia. Her gynecologist, Graeme Reeves stated that it was a sign of cancer so she underwent an operation to remove it. When Caroline woke up she had more removed down there than she expected. The New South Wales women had her genitals were removed without her consent, but the doctor claimed he was saving her from future problems.

Outraged by the gynecologist’s actions, Caroline took him to court where she became even more outraged by the courts decision. Reeves will be sentences to three and a half years in jail, but can be eligible for parole in 2 years.

Caroline’s reaction to the sentence was completely acceptable and she expressed outside the court: “My sentence is for life. I am an innocent person. I went to a hospital, by a registered doctor who is supported by all the bureaucratic, up there, people”.

It seems that Reeves played the ‘depression card’ and he played it well. Justice, Greg Woods stated that Reeves suffers from depression and a break down in the courts gave him the empathy from his patients. He was also considered deluded and the treatment is unacceptable.

Medical Error Action Group leader, Lorraine Long helped Ms. DeWaegeneire expose her disappointment. Ms Long had expected at least double of what he was sentenced.

Judge Woods also stated that Reeves must never be allowed to practice medicine where it involved contact with patients.
