Woman goes blind in one eye after catching flesh-eating bacteria during mud run

A flesh-eating bacterium led a woman to become blind in one eye. Brittany Williams caught the bacteria during a mud run event and initially felt like as some debris cut her eye. The problems began taking place within 24 hours.

She shared her experience with CBS Dallas, saying her eye started hurting, and it appeared to her as if mud or some debris entered her eye. When she opened her eye, it was just like white. The condition worsened to such an extent that her eye completely melted off.

Williams said she needs to undergo surgery to regain vision, but the problem is that she no longer has health insurance. This led her family to create a Go Fund Me page to help her get enough money through funding for the surgery.

“I’ve had health insurance before, and I never used it. I never went to the doctor, and I just spent lots of money for nothing. So I didn’t see the point at the time when we couldn’t afford it”, said Williams, according Dallas news station KTVT.

Williams said that she is a religious person and feels there is a reason behind everything that happens to everybody. The experienced described by Williams reminisce of a horror movie.
