Wolves at Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Centre are great hosts

Although Colorado is famous for legalizing marijuana in 2012, yet they eschewed a chemical high for a natural one and that included being kissed by a wolf at the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center in Divide. The center is a short drive northwest of Colorado Springs, and a few hours south of Denver.

An adventure loving person said that getting up close and personal with a wolf has been on his daughter's bucket list for years, so he decided to built a four-day adventure around a photo session that included a half hour with two wolves, and a tour of the sanctuary complete with howling.

The other days of the adventure included sleeping atop Cheyenne Mountain at Cloud Camp, and watching the Colorado sunset at the breathtaking Ranch at Emerald Valley, both Broadmoor properties.

He said that first was the turn of the wolves. They signed liability waivers, got rid of any tassels, dangly objects and jewelry, left their cameras, purses, sandals and wallets behind, and entered the enclosure.

He said that the two gates behind them were quickly locked and that it was a bit daunting to be penned in with two large wolves. He mentioned that but Micah, a six-year-old timber wolf, and Keara, a 10-year-old Alaskan Interior wolf, were great hosts.

He mentioned that they were the centre's ambassadors, and particularly, Micah was well-versed in meeting and greeting visitors, especially when treats were involved.

The father and his daughter put their trust in Darlene Kobobel's hands and lens. She not only photographed the encounters but was the head wolf lady who started rescuing wolves and wolf-dogs 23 years ago. She is running the 14-hectare sanctuary and education facility in order to become the voice for all animals and to educate the public about why wolves, coyote and fox were essential to our eco-system.

The centre is providing the wolves with large enclosures, food and vet care. It has been operating solely on public donations and sponsors.

The father said that they prepaid $250 for their Alpha Photo Session for the four of them and that it was worth every penny.
