Weekly retail sales drop due to snow and cold

The International Council of Shopping Centers reported on Tuesday that severe winter weather kept U.S. shoppers close to home in the week ending Feb. 13.

The report said that covering  areas from Dallas to Atlanta a severe blizzard in the East and a "record-breaking" snowstorm in the South contributed to a 1.6 percent drop in sales compared with the previous week and a 0.7 percent drop from the same week a year ago.

ICSC further said that 49 of the 50 U.S. states had snowfall during the week that "took its toll on the consumers' ability to shop and spend."

According to the Weather Trends International, the snow came with chilly temperatures, which averaged 11.4 degrees Fahrenheit colder than the same week a year ago and 5 degrees lower than the week's historic average. (With Input from Agencies)
