'We have to fight against forces who want to destroy Nehru's ideals': Sonia Gandhi

Sonia GandhiNew Delhi, Nov 13 : Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday took criticized the forces in the country for attempting to belittle the legacy of India's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru's and "destroy his ideals".

"Nehruji's ideologies are not just a part of history, they inspire us even today and undoubtedly it will inspire generations to come. We should remain committed to fight those who want to destroy the liberal and progressive edifice of India," said Sonia while addressing a party conclave here at the Talkatora Stadium to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru.

"Those targeting Nehruji today, are targeting an ideology, we have to fight against the forces who want to destroy Pt. Nehru's ideals," she added.

Sonia also credited Nehru for laying the foundation stone in the sphere of space where India is now hogging limelight after its successful Mars mission.

"Without Nehruji, we would not have been able to send Chandrayaan and Mangalyaan,"she said.

Sonia further said that Nehru's legacy belonged to all and praised him for his efforts in building institutions.

"Nehruji's legacy is that of the whole countrymen. He fulfilled his responsibility for formation of new India with enthusiasm and dedication. He built industry, set up the irrigation system. He provided health and education system," Sonia added.

On this occasion, Sonia Gandhi, along with her son and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi, and other leaders also took oath to follow Nehru's vision. (ANI)
