Stockholm - Swedish carmaker Volvo Thursday said it has decided to recall 8,500 of its V70 2.0 flexifuel and S80 2.0 flexifuel models over fuel pump problems.

The move was made after several vehicle owners reported that their cars stalled suddenly. Some owners said the problems were linked to high temperatures outside.

Swedish media reported that some 400 owners in Sweden were impacted by the problems during a recent heat wave that hit the Nordic country.

"It is a high number for us over such a short period," Volvo spokesman Bo Larsen told Swedish radio news.

The affected vehicles were assembled between November 2007 and September 2008, and were to get new fuel pumps.

Most of the affected vehicles were V70 2.0 flexifuel models that have mainly been sold in Sweden.

Volvo Cars is a subsidiary of US auto giant Ford. (dpa)
