Volvo Global EV sales set new record in June 2024, thanks to EX30

June 2024 marked a significant milestone for Volvo Cars as the company reported record-breaking global sales, partly thanks to the surge in demand for the brand’s electric vehicles (EVs). Last month, Volvo sold 71,514 cars globally, up 8 per cent year-over-year. During the first half (H1) of 2024, the brand’s sales jumped 14 per cent from the corresponding six-month period of 2023 to settle at 388,073 units.

When it comes to the company’s plug-in electric cars, sales jumped 41 per cent year-over-year to set a new record of 34,382 units last month. Rechargeable cars represented slightly more than 48 per cent of the brand's total volume. The all-electric Volvo EX30 emerged as the star of the show. It played a crucial role in roughly doubling the automaker’s EV sales compared to previous year, underscoring the company’s successful transition from conventional gasoline-powered engines to sustainable mobility.

To be more specific, the company’s all-electric car sales jumped nearly 100 per cent to 18,435 units, up 93 per cent year-over-year, accounting for a 25.8 per cent share in the company’s total global sales volume. More than 66 per cent of the EV sales happened to be Volvo EX30.

Björn Annwall, Chief Commercial Officer at Volvo Cars, said, “As June comes to a close, the sales figures for the month are proof of the successful steps we have taken toward our long-term strategic direction and the continued demand for our cars. I am particularly pleased by the continued strong sales performance of the EX30.”

Sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs), however, could grew merely 7 per cent year-over-year to settle at roughly 16,000 units.

During the Q2 period of 2024, the company sold 98,673 plug-in electric cars, including 52,589 all-electric ones, which made the quarter the best ever.

Year-to-date (YTD), the company has sold more than 173,000 plug-in units, up 27 per cent year-over-year, with all-electric car sales amounting to 90,760 units, up 53 per cent, representing the brand’s ongoing transition to complete electrification.

Volvo Cars’ remarkable sales performance in June 2024, especially the success of the all-electric Volvo EX30 highlights not only the brand’s effective sales strategies but also growing market demand for EVs. With thousands of plug-in vehicles sold in the first six months of this year and all-electric models accounting for a considerable share of the total sales, Volvo seems to be on the right track to achieve its goal of full electrification.
