Volkswagen showcases Polo at the India Auto Expo

Volkswagen-PoloVolkswagen, the German auto maker has showcased its small car Polo in India through the 2010 Auto Expo in Delhi. The launch date is set for later this year.

Jochem Heizmann, Volkswagen AG Member of the Board of management after presenting the car in the Auto Expo in the capital said "The Polo stands for German engineering and top technology. It is lively young cosmopolitan made in India car."

He expects to get a market share of 8-10 per cent in the next 4-6 years as the company enters the small car segment.

Polo is to come in both Petrol and diesel variants faces competition from the likes of Skoda Fabia, Hyundai i20 and Suzuki Swift. The pricing of the car is expected to be very competitive and would be known only once the car has reached the market, indicated member of Board and Director Neeraj Garg from the Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd.

The company's Chakan facility in Pune is to roll out the small car in three versions namely the Trendline, Comfortline and Highline. The petrol version has 1.2 litre engine with an output of 75HP@ 5400 rpm. The diesel polo also has a 1.2 litre unit with 75HP at a lower 4200 rpm. Large 15 inch wheels, functional interiors and a host of pockets gives polo a stylish image with no compromise on safety as the car come fitted with ABS, dual airbags and an anti-theft immobilizer.

Company intends to roll out its sedan on the Polo platform later this year after the launch of a racing version of polo.
