Vodafone announces job cuts in Australia

Vodafone announces job cuts in AustraliaUK based global telecom giant, Vodafone is expected to cut hundreds of jobs in the month of November as it faces rising costs and declining revenues.

The company did not announce a fixed number of jobs that will be axed but only said that it is planning to reduce the number of job roles across Australia to have a leaner, more effective operating model for its operations. The company employs 5000 full-time and contract workers in Australia and it is believed that the company might cut about 500 jobs.

Vodafone Australia head Bill Morrow said, "It is vital that we simplify the business to be efficient and to enable growth in the long term. We need to prioritise every dollar and internal action to count towards an improved customer experience and these changes are designed to deliver just this."

Vodafone Hutchison Australia had reported a loss of $131.1 million during the first half of the year till June, 2012. The company has seen a fall in revenues and is facing difficulties in upgrading its network in the country.

Vodafone Australia has been criticized recently for poor customer service, delays in upgrading its network and low connectivity to the customers. The company lost millions of customer due to network issues in the country and it is looking to address the issue to reverse the situation.
