U.S. foul weather threatens holiday travel
Many parts of the U. S., including Maine, will likely continue to suffer harsh weather for some time, which will definitely make travelling worse and cause widespread power outages.
Forecasters have predicted that the current weekend would likely be in the clutches of harsh, icy weather. The north parts of the country will suffer rain and snow, while there will be torrential rain in the Ohio Valley and Appalachia. The south may suffer tornadoes also.
The Midwest witnessed the cancellation of some flights on Friday. FlightStats. com was reporting more than 1,900 flight delays in the country, with Chicago's O'Hare, Denver International, and three New York-area airports suffering the biggest brunt of the cancellations.
Tom Kines, an AccuWeather meteorologist, "I think there's a high likelihood there will be severe storms with hail and damaging wind in parts of the South."
Kines added that the unsettled weather was being caused by a northern cold front's clashing with warm and humid air from the South. In the Northeast, residents will likely be treated to a harsh winter thunderstorm by Sunday night. The foul weather is definitely a big headache for millions of people who are planning to travel during the weekend by air or road.
