UPA allies, CWC hold meetings separate meets today

New Delhi, July 11 : The meetings of the UPA allies and the Congress Working Committee (CWC) are scheduled to be held today to decide their future political strategy after the withdrawal of support by Left parties.

The decision for the UPA allies'' meeting was taken at yesterday''s Congress Core Group meeting, attended by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, party chief Sonia Gandhi, union ministers Pranab Mukherjee, Arjun Singh, AK Antony and Shivraj Patil, besides other senior leaders.

The meeting came amid hectic efforts by Congress managers to ensure the numbers for the ruling coalition during a trust vote in Parliament, the date of which is to be decided today.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh last evening called on President Pratibha Patil, and stated that he and his Cabinet colleagues were keen to seek a vote of confidence as early as possible.

The meeting called in the wake of withdrawal of support by the Left Parties to the UPA Government and reiteration of Samajwadi Party''s support to it lasted about half-an-hour. (ANI)
