Union government should review decision to hike diesel price, MayawatiBahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Friday said that the central government should review its decision to allow hikes in prices of diesel in the country.

The central government has hinted that it will allow state-run oil marketing companies to revise diesel rates in order to lessen losses and reduce the burden of subsidies on the government. The government also more or less deregulated diesel prices allowing small hikes in the prices. The government is set to allow a hike of 40-50 paise a litre every month.

She suggested that the congress party should discuss the issue during its ongoing conclave in the state of Rajasthan. Meanwhile, UPA key ally DMK also demanded that the Government reconsider its decision to allow hikes in the prices of diesel in the country.

The two regional political leaders also voiced their demand for raising the cap on subsidized cylinders to 12 per year in the country. The central government has announced its decision to raise the limit placed on supply of subsidised cooking gas (LPG) to nine cylinders per household every year from six cylinders earlier.
