Union Budget 2010 Emphasizes More on Rural Health
India's health allocation has gone up by Rs 2,700 crore to Rs 22,300 crore with Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee specifically emphasizing on rural heath in his budget speech Friday.
The current figures revealed that India has successfully lowered its crude birth rate (CBR) to 22.8 in every 1,000 people from 29.5 in 1991, which triggered a decrease in crude death rate (CDR) to 7.4 from 9.8 in 1,000 people in the same period, the pre-budget Survey tabled in Parliament on Thursday said.
"I propose to increase the plan allocation for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare from Rs 19,534 crore to Rs 22,300 crore for 2010-11", the Finance Minister said in his budget presented in Parliament.
In addition, he posted that an annual health survey would be conducted to prepare the district health profile of the rural populace.
The flagship programme of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, the NRHM, was unveiled in 2005, aimed to improve availability and access to quality healthcare in remote areas.
Some of the major initiatives launched the government in the healthcare sector include Janani Suraksha Yojana with an am to lower maternal mortality rate (MMR) by ensuring that deliveries were conducted by skilled birth attendants.
