UK retailers record 113 million site visits on 26th December
According to the latest figures available, Customers in the UK made about 113 million visits to retail sites on the 26th of December, 2012.
Several shoppers headed for the shops to look for discounts while others used the internet to look for attractive deals recording a combined total of 14 million hours on that day alone. Data shows that there was a 17 per cent increase in retail site visits between Boxing Day 2011 and Boxing Day 2012 in the country.
Data also showed that there was a 86 per cent increase in retail site visits on the 25th compared to the same day of the previous year. The total increase on 24 December was 71 per cent from the previous year. About 84 million retail site visits were recorded on Christmas Eve while 107 million retail site visits were recorded on Christmas Day.
Experian Marketing service's James Murray said, "Boxing Day set a new British record for online shopping with 113 million visits going to retail websites in a single day. However, with a number of the major retailers bringing their sales forward to Christmas Eve, the impact of that was that Boxing Day was slightly muted and not as prolific as we forecast."
