UAE supports UN funds with US$668,000
New York, Nov. 12, 2008 -- The UAE Tuesday presented US$668,000 to the UN in support of the latter's development activities and programmes for the year 2009.
In a statement to the special congress held at the New York headquarters to announce donations made to the UN's various funds by members of the international body, Mohammed Saeed Al-Ka'abi, UAE delegation member to the UN, said the amount include US$324,000 donated to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), US$100,000 to the UNICEF, US$54,000 to the UNHCR, US$50,000 to the UNIFEM, US$50,000 to the UN Central Fund for emergency cases and another US$50,000 for the ICRC.
He added that the UAE also donated US$30,000 to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and US$10,000 the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).
Al-Ka'abi expressed the UAE's deep appreciation for the efforts being exerted by all the UN bodies to reach out to victims of natural and man-made disasters worldwide. He urged the international community, particularly donor countries and institutions, to increase their contributions and humanitarian assistance to the peoples of the affected countries. (WAM/SA)
