Gifhorn, Germany  - A family quarrel in northern Germany ended in tragedy Friday, with police arresting a man suspected of having stabbed his wife and her
16-year-old sister to death.

Police in the town of Gifhorn in Lower Saxony state. Police had answered an emergency telephone call to arrive at an apartment and find the two women covered in blood. An emergency doctor called to scene was only able to confirm their deaths.

A 36-year-old man, the husband of one of the women, was arrested.

The couple's three children, ranging in age from one and one-half to nine years, were at home at the time. They were turned over to social services for further care. (dpa)
