TVS announces India's inaugural electric motorcycle racing championship
Indian two-wheeler giant TVS has announced that in collaboration with its racing subsidiary TVS Racing, the company is all set to introduce India's first electric motorcycle racing series. The announcement regarding India's inaugural electric motorcycle racing championship has surfaced as craze for electric two-wheelers is on the rise across India and its bordering nations. Thus, it is quite exciting to witness the emergence of motorsports dedicated to eco-friendly, high-performance two-wheelers.
The Indian manufacturer’s newly announced ground-breaking venture will be called the TVS Racing Electric One Make Championship (e-OMC). This electrifying racing series will revolve around a revolutionary electric motorcycle platform precisely crafted by TVS to show its dedication to this thrilling racing extravaganza. All the participating electric motorcycles, called "Apache RTE", will have the same specifications. Thus, victory will hinge solely on the prowess of the rider, and it will be a thrilling testament to skill surpassing all else.
When it comes to the aforementioned purpose-built racing motorcycles, TVS boasts that they will offer an unparalleled power-to-weight ratio. While precise figures regarding power remain undisclosed, the manufacturer tantalizingly revealed that these e-bikes will come equipped with a liquid-cooled electric motor (e-motor) and a liquid-cooled controller. Apart from that, the battery pack of the racing machines have been crafted from so-called "high-power" cells. While this might sound somewhat intangible, a clearer picture of their performance will emerge ahead of the start of the championship. Some other features and specs of the racing machines include Öhlins suspension, powerful Brembo brakes, and grippy Pirelli Corsa tires. The body of the two-wheelers will be meticulously crafted from lightweight carbon fiber.
TVS Motor Co.’s Managing Director (MD), Sudarshan Venu, proudly stated that TVS Motor has been a steadfast advocate for racing ever since they laid the foundation for India's inaugural factory racing team.
Commenting on the planned e-motorbike racing, Venu said, “TVS Motor has been championing racing ever since we started India’s first factory racing team. TVS Racing has been instrumental in making motorsports aspirational yet accessible for enthusiasts across the country. Many of the technologies that we pioneered in our racing machines have made way to our production vehicles, giving shape to our ‘track to road’ philosophy.”
The grand premiere of the TVS e-OMC is slated to take place during the fourth round of the upcoming Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship (INMRC). The engines of the racing machines will roar to life on September 29, 2023, where eight handpicked racers, carefully selected by the manufacture, will compete for the coveted title.
