Toyota Motor Corp. has history of political donationsUS records show that involved in three public investigations in Washington, Toyota Motor Corp. has an extensive history of political donations.

According the reports of Washington Post, adding to its track record of shelling out more than $1.3 million in political campaign contributions in the past 10 years, Toyota spent $5 million on lobbying efforts in 2009, much of it given to state parties and political action committees.

The Post further said that the three congressional committees include 125 members of Congress, 40 percent of whom have been given campaign contributions by Toyota.

In 2008 Sen. John Rockefeller IV, D-W. Va., chairman of the Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation said, after the company sponsored a gala dinner in his honor, that he was "proud to call" Toyota division President Shigeru Hayakawa a friend.

Massive recalls that Toyota issued in October, January and February are being investigated by Rockefeller's committee.

Rockefeller spokeswoman Jamie Smith, told the Post," Anyone who has followed Senator Rockefeller's long career in West Virginia knows well that he fights hard for good-paying manufacturing jobs but never shirks from holding those same companies' feet to the fire when it comes to safety and consumer protection."

Smith further said," Any suggestion otherwise is just plain wrong." (With Input from Agencies)
