A Tough Day In Office For Anand!
It was a tough day for World champion Viswanathan Anand in the office as he had to play out a hard-fought draw with Grandmaster Lenier Dominguez of Cuba in the third round of the 22nd Ciudad de Leon chess tournament. The draw was agreed to in 41 moves.
Anand maintained to be in the third position with 1.5 points behind Levon Aronian (Armenia) and Alexander Grischuk of Russia.
Currently, both Aronian and Grischuk are placed at number one position with two points each.
Meanwhile, in another match of the day, Wang Yue played a solid game to hold Magnus Carlsen of Norway.
In the third round, all the four games ended with draws.
In the first round, Anand defeated Grandmaster Teimour Radjabov of Azerbaijan with a bang. However, the Indian lost to Armenian Levon Aronian in the second round of the tournament.
Apart from Anand, Dominguez, Carlsen and Ivanchuk are also on the third spot.
However, both Radjabov and Wang Yue are lying at the bottom of the table with one point each.
The total prize fund amounts 314000 euro, and the winner’s prize fund is 100 000 euros.
