Tokyo is the ‘world leader’ in fine dining

London, Nov 20 : If you want to savour some of the best cuisine on the planet, then rather than heading for Paris, London or New York, you should set out for Tokyo, which has been named the ‘the world leader’ in fine dining the Michelin Guide.

The guide, by the French tyre company Michelin, has been every food connoisseur’s bible for more than a century, and its restaurant ratings using stars are probably the most recognized and influential culinary ratings, awarding one to three stars to a small number of restaurants of outstanding quality.

However, restaurants in the Japanese capital certainly left the Guide’s compilers impressed, for eight restaurants, including two high-end sushi joints were awarded three-star status.

Only one non-Japanese chef, Joel Robuchon, made it into Tokyo’s top eight. Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay’s lone restaurant there however remained starless.

Apart from showing people where to find good sushi restaurants and classic kaiseki dining, the full list features three fugu houses, where specially trained chefs prepare the intensely poisonous puffer fish so that the eating experience is not fatal, reports Times Online.

With the number of starred restaurants beating all those of any other location covered by the guides, Tokyo has been named the “world leader” in fine dining. (ANI)
