Tesla launches new ‘Solar Glass’ version of Solar Roof tiles; cost $34,000 for average home
In a recent announcement, Tesla has said that it is launching the third version of its Solar Roof tiles. The less-expensive new version of the Solar Roof tiles -- which were first introduced by Tesla in 2017 -- is called ‘Tesla Solar Glass.’
Revealing the pricing of the new Solar Glass version of the Solar Roof tiles, Tesla said that the cost of the new version for an average home starts at approximately $34,000, after incentives. At that cost, an average home can have a base 2,000 ft² roof with 10 kW of solar roof tiles installed.
The new Solar Glass is, hence, a comparatively more affordable version of the Solar Roof tiles. Moreover, the new version will also come with the advantage of a faster installation, and will be more long lasting. To reduce the time for installation of the new solar roofs, Tesla will also work with third-party installers who will be certified for solar roof installations.
In reference to the new Solar Glass version of the Solar Roof tiles, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said: “With version 3, we managed to achieve a cost less than what the average cost plus retrofit solar panels.”
Musk also added that Solar Glass will hopefully become the best option for people who want a new roof. He specifically asserted that Solar Glass will be the best-looking roof option which will also be capable of generating solar power.
