Tennis stars taken for a ride on horse carriages in City of Joy

Kolkata, Sept 17: Tennis players from across the globe, who are in the City of Joy--Kolkata to take part in the WTA Sunfeast Open, were treated to a unique experience on Sunday as they were taken on a ride in horse carriages.

The carriages took the players on a ride around the landmark Victoria Memorial as hordes of curious onlookers glanced at them.

The players seemed upbeat riding the quaint carriages, a reminder of the erstwhile British Raj in India.
"It has been a great experience. We are looking to our week here, starting with the buggy ride," said Kathy Roeckard.

"It's different than United States. There are lots of people but they are so nice they love to help us. They are good," added Christie Seredny.

The tournament, which will commence on Monday, will see the likes of Wimbledon finalist Marion Bartoli and Russian Daniela Hantuchova, along with India's ace Sania Mirza.

The players will compete for prize money of 175,000 dollars. (With Inputs from ANI)
