Telfair's career night spoils O'Neal's debut
Los Angeles - Jermaine O'Neal's debut with the Miami Heat ended up in a bloody loss.
Sebastian Telfair poured in a career-high 30 points, Ryan Gomes added 20 and the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Heat 111-1104 on Wednesday night to snap a five-game slide.
"I had everything going for me out there tonight," Telfair said. "Some nights are like that."
Kevin Love contributed 16 points with nine boards, Randy Foy chipped in with 14 points for Minnesota (18-35) which drained a season-best 14-of-22 from behind the arc and dominated 49-24.
Dwyane Wade led Miami (28-25) with 37 points and 12 assists. O'Neal finished with 13 points and just one rebound in 27 minutes in his first game since being acquired along with Jamario Moon from Toronto on Friday for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks.
"I would not have scripted this for my first game," O'Neal said. "Absolutely not,"
O'Neal went to the locker room in the third quarter after Mike Miller's elbow on a drive, opened up a cut below his right eye.
He was treated, and when X-rays were negative, O'Neal returned to the court with 4:20 left to play, but couldn't help the Heat pull out the win.
Trailing by 11, Mario Chalmers' three-pointer capped a 12-0 run to put the Heat ahead 99-98 with 2:30 remaining. However, after Telfair found Foye in the right corner for a three-pointer. He followed with one of his own and added two free throws with 31 seconds, putting the Timberwolves back on top 105-102.
Love and Wade traded free throws to keep the T-Wolves ahead, 107- 104, before Telfair and Miller sank two free throws apiece to wrap up the road win.
Elsewhere: Cleveland Cavaliers 93, Toronto Raptors 76 Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored 22 points, LeBron James had 20, nine rebounds and nine assists as the visiting Cavaliers held Shawn Marion to 10 points in his Raptors' debut.
New Orleans Hornets 117, Orlando Magic 85 Chris Paul had 36 points with 10 assists, and the Hornets handed the visiting Magic its most lopsided loss of the season.
Before the game, the Hornets learned starting centre Tyson Chandler, traded to Oklahoma City on Tuesday for forwards Joe Smith and Chris Wilcox and the draft rights to Devon Hardin was being returned after he failed his physical.
LA Lakers 129, Golden State Warriors 121 Kobe Bryant scored 30 points, Spaniard Pau Gasol had 24 with 13 rebounds and the league-best Lakers (44-10) rallied past the Warriors.
Before the game, the Lakers lightened up their payroll, trading seldom-used centre Chris Mihm to the Memphis Grizzlies for a future draft pick. The seven-foot backup averaged two points and 1.9 rebounds in 18 games this season.
Stephen Jackson and Corey Maggette tallied 24 points apiece to pace host Golden State (19-36) which was outscored 37-27 in the final quarter.
Phoenix Suns 142, LA Clippers 119 Amare Stoudemire had 42 points with 11 rebounds, Steve Nash added 21 points with 12 assists and the up-tempo Suns crushed the host Clippers for the second straight night.
The Suns blew out the lowly Clippers 144-100 on Tuesday in Alvin Gentry's interim head coaching debut after replacing fired Terry Porter.
Al Thornton scored 33 points for the Clippers, who played without their top scorer Zach Randolph, serving a one-game league suspension for punching Suns reserve Louis Amundson on Tuesday night.

Richard Jefferson led Milwaukee with a season high-tying 32 points.
Dallas Mavericks 113, New Jersey Nets 98 Josh Howard had 24 points with 10 rebounds, Jason Kidd added 23 and 10 assists against his former club as the Mavericks beat the Nets at home for the ninth straight time.
German juggernaut Dirk Nowitzki had 23 points for Dallas (32-21) while Antoine Wright added 20.
Portland Trail Blazers 94, Memphis Grizzlies 90 Brandon Roy scored 24 points, including a pair of game-sealing free throws with three seconds left, giving the Trail Blazers the home victory.
Atlanta Hawks 105, Sacramento Kings 100 Mike Bibby scored 29 points, Joe Johnson added 20, including the go-ahead basket with 38 seconds left, and the Hawks ended an eight- game slide in Sacramento.
