Tehran signals willingness to talk to next US administration

Tehran signals willingness to talk to next US administrationTehran  - Tehran on Sunday once again signalled its willingness to have talks with the next United States administration after the presidential elections.

While doubting talks could take place with the current administration, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said that Iran might hold talks with Washington following the presidential elections later this year.

"There will be no talks with the US for the time being but let's see on what basis the US policies would be in the future," ISNA news agency quoted Mottaki as saying.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad last Tuesday said that Iran would be willing to talk to the new US president within a debate.

Ahmadinejad's previous efforts to hold talks with current President George W Bush has twice been rejected by the White House. A letter by Ahmadinejad to Bush two years ago was ignored by the US president.

Without officially admitting it, Iran clearly favours the Democratic Party and backs the candidacy of Barack Obama for the next US president rather than Hillary Clinton due to Obama's interest in having talks with Tehran. (dpa)
