Orkut bans ‘Indian Mujahideen’ community

OrkutNew Delhi, Sept 25 : Following the serial blasts in the national capital on September 13, Google''s social networking site Orkut on Thursday banned a community named as ''Indian Mujahideen''.

A Google spokesperson said: "Google strongly condemns illegal activities and those that encourage terrorism and violence.”

“We take abuse on Orkut very seriously as such activities diminish the experience for our users," the spokesperson added.

China launches Shenzhou VII spacewalk mission

China To Train New Generation Of AstronautsBeijing  - China on Friday launched its Shenzhou VII manned space mission carrying three astronauts whose main task was to complete the country's first spacewalk.

The spacecraft lifted off from the Jiuquan space centre in the north-western province at about 9:10 pm (1310 GMT) on board a Long March-2F carrier rocket.

The scheduled three-day Shenzhou VII mission includes China's first spacewalk on Friday, which is expected to last about 40 minutes and be carried out by astronaut Zhai Zhigang.

European Parliament backs car CO2 laws in dramatic turnaround

Car CO2Brussels - A key European Parliament committee on Thursday gave its backing to strong European Union limits on the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) new cars should emit in a dramatic turnaround from the expected result.

At a stormy meeting, the parliament's environment committee decided that car makers selling their vehicles in the EU should make sure that the average CO2 emissions of the cars they sell should be no more than 120 grams per kilometre (g/km) in 2012.

Penalties for non-compliance should start at 20 euros (29.3 dollars) per car sold and per g/km over the limit in 2012, and rise to 95 euros per g/km in 2015, they said.
