President Patil meets students of her Alma Mater

President Pratibha PatilNew Delhi, Dec 18 : President Pratibha Patil met a group of students from her alma mater, the Government Law College Mumbai, at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

During the interaction, the President sought to know why nearly half the group members were women.

The women students of the college informed the President that as an alumnus of the college she has been an inspiration for women wanting to take up a career in law.

Nationwide campaign of youth against terrorism and violence launched

MS GillNew Delhi, Dec 18 : Union Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Dr. M. S. Gill today launched a Nationwide campaign of youth against terrorism and violence "Together For Peace".

This nationwide campaign has been planned by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, to reaffirm their commitment to peace and harmony.

Starting from the National Youth Day, January 12 upto January 30, 2009, a nationwide campaign would be launche to strengthen democratic, secular and pluralist character of our country.

Dr Kalam says national campaign necessary for eradication of terrorism

Abdul KalamNew Delhi, Dec 18 : Former President Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam today said that a national campaign should be formulated for eradication of terrorism.

Speaking to media on the sidelines of a seminar here, Dr. Kalam said, "the national campaign should focus on eradicating poverty, education as well as making people aware of the perils of terrorism".

He also called for fast delivery of justice and eradication of poverty as part of the national campaign.

On being asked whether India was capable of defending itself in case of war, Dr. Kalam said India is a nuclear power and therefore it has the strength to defend herself.

Lalu Prasad awards 500,000 rupees to body builder Mir Mohtesham Ali

Mir Mohtesham Ali, 33, had come to the Rail Bhavan, the Ministry of Railways' main office, in the national capital for a courtesy meet with the minister. The latter was highly impressed when the body builder showed him his solid muscular built.

Dawood behind conspiracy to assassinate Karkare, ATS chief

According to the website, Dawood Gang was desperate to kill the ATS team, as they were ''completely neutralised'' by the ATS squad of Hemant Karkare, which had detained dozens of Dawood''s shooters and killed as many in encounters. Lily Allen plans to retire after marriage

Lily AllenNew Delhi, Dec 18 : Pop star Lily Allen has revealed that she will retire from her music career as soon as she gets married.

When inquired whether she would be performing after 40 years or not, she said: "No. Absolutely my idea of hell. My worst nightmare! I want to have children and live in the countryside. Sorry - boring I know," reports China Daily.

"I''m retiring when someone marries me and I have children," Allen said.
