Conference of Ambassadors, High Commissioners to begin today

New Delhi, Dec 22 : A two-day conference of Ambassadors and High Commissioners will begin here today.

The meeting is being convened by the government during which Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee will provide sufficient material pertaining to the Mumbai terror attacks, while establishing the Pakistani link.

Dr. Singh and Mukherjee are expected to outline the steps that India has taken to improve ties with Pakistan, and how the neighbour has failed to reciprocate the gestures in terms of ending terrorism.

Both will also tell the envoys about how they should present India in the present global scenario when terrorism and financial crisis are posing greatest challenges to the world.

Dense fog disrupts rail traffic

New Delhi/Allahabad, Dec 21 : Dozens of railway passengers continue to be stranded as most of the trains in north India have been either delayed or cancelled due to poor visibility caused by thick dense fog.

In the national capital, rail traffic to and from city was severely affected and most of the trains are reportedly running behind schedule.

Hundreds of passengers were stranded at the New Delhi Railway Station, as majority of the trains failed to depart or arrive in time.

Harried parents who had been waiting for hours to receive their children had a gruelling time in the absence of proper information from the railway authorities.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh reviews India’s security scenarioNew Delhi, De 21: Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has reviewed the security scenario in the country during a meeting with senior ministers and the three service chiefs on Saturday night.

The meeting was attended by Defence Minister A K Antony, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Home Minister P Chidambaram and National Security Adviser M K Narayanan.

The three service chiefs and intelligence chiefs were also present in the meeting, which lasted around four hours.

Winter fog throws New Delhi out of gear

New Delhi, Dec 21 : A thick fog engulfed the national capital today as temperatures fell across northern India.

Weather officials say that the western disturbances over northwest India are responsible for the sudden fall in the temperatures.

The fog wreaked havoc on New Delhi''s transport systems, canceling and delaying nearly ten flights and an equal number of trains.

"Because of this fog, I faced a lot of problems driving on the highway. Now after reaching the airport, I have got to know that the flight has got delayed," said Debarishi Vajpayee, a man waiting outside the airport.

Prime Minister's wife releases Khushwant Singh's bookNew Delhi, Dec 21: Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh''s wife, Gurusharan Kaur released writer Khushwant Singh''s English rendering of Sikh hymns here last evening.

The book "Songs Of The Gurus" is a compilation of Gurubanis, or Sikh religious verses.

"This book is about the translations of Gurubanis into English poetry, which I am familiar with," Kaur said while releasing the book.

Khushwant Singh said that it was a compilation of his old translations.
