New Delhi, Sept 2 : The Tibetans-in-exile today organised a prayer session in New Delhi to mark the 48th anniversary of their government-in-exile at Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh.

Tibetans do not celebrate the occasion with fanfare, but they perform prayers to mark the Democracy Day.

Tibetan activists, attending the special session, said that they were taking a small break from the months-long protest but the struggle would continue with the same vigour.

Kiren Rijiju, an MP from Arunachal Pradesh, who also attended the ceremony, called for the government’s intervention in the issue.

New Delhi, Sept 2 : Holenarsipur Yoganarasimha Sharada Prasad, aka H. Y. Sharada Prasad, the legendary Mysorean who served as media advisor to three prime ministers of India, passed away on Tuesday. He was 84 and is survived by his wife Kamalamma, and two sons.

“Shourie“, as Sharada Prasad was known to relatives and close friends, was born in Bangalore, educated at the University of Mysore and jailed during the Quit India movement. He joined the Indian Express group in Bombay in 1945, and was a Neiman fellow in journalism at Harvard University in 1955-56.

New Delhi - The Indian military on Tuesday sent in more soldiers, boats and aircraft to help with rescue and relief efforts in India's flood-devastated eastern state of Bihar amid reports of food riots and warnings of possible outbreaks of waterborne disease.

At least 56 deaths had been confirmed since the Kosi River breached an embankment in neighbouring Nepal and inundated vast areas of Bihar on August 18, and officials estimated that another 50 people had died.

The number of deaths could go up, Prataya Amrit, a senior official at the Bihar Disaster Management Department, warned in the state capital, Patna.

New Delhi, Sept 2 : The Archbishop of Cuttack today filed a petition before the Supreme Court seeking a CBI probe into violence against the Christians in Orissa.

The petition also sought the involvement of the National Human Rights Commissions (NHRC) to conduct a probe and find out as to which organisation was behind the Kandhamal violence.

Senior Advocate Collin Gonsalves informed about the filing of the petition to a Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan, which agreed to hear the matter later in the day.

New Delhi, Sept 2 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Tuesday released a book ‘Walk With Me’ written by Minister for Tribal Affairs P. R. Kyndiah.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Singh said: “It is for me a matter of great pleasure and privilege to release this, in many ways, a unique book which celebrates the joys of walking and indeed which makes walking not only a means of promoting good and sound health but also which helps to raise the consciousness and makes it almost a spiritual experience.”

New Delhi, Sept 2 : In order to meet the deadline of producing Euro-III and Euro-IV grade petrol and diesel from April 2010, the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), the country’s largest refiner, is investing over Rs 12,000 crore to upgrade its seven refineries.

IOC Director (Refineries) B. N. Bankapur said, "All our refineries are on schedule to meet the Euro-III and Euro-IV deadline."

Petrol and diesel meeting the stringent Euro-IV specifications is to be supplied in seven metro cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad from April 1, 2010 and for the rest of the country Euro-III grade fuel is to be supplied from that date.
