CBI to probe Satyam accounting fraud case

CBI LogoNew Delhi, Feb 17 : Union Minister of Corporate Affairs Prem Chand Gupta on Tuesday said the government has ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the accounting fraud in IT major Satyam Computer Services Ltd.

"The government has ordered for a CBI investigation into the whole issue. CBI will now look into all aspects of the investigation," Gupta said.

Addressing the media here, he informed that no time frame has been set for the CBI.

GOM on 3G likely to be set up this week

GOM on 3G likely to be set up this weekNew Delhi, Feb 17 : Union Minister for Communications and IT A. Raja on Tuesday said that a Group of Ministers (GoM) for 3G spectrum auction may be set up this week, and hoped the process would start before March 31.

According to Raja, the GoM would sort out the number of slots and base price issues in 3G-spectrum.

"The GoM is likely to be constituted this week. We have time to go for auction. A policy decision on the auction was announced much earlier, so the election code of conduct will not be a hindrance," Raja said.

Long Xiaowei, who was kidnapped along with his colleague Zhang Guo last August in the Dir region of northwest Pakistan, was freed Saturday and taken to the Chinese embassy early Sunday morning, where he told his tale.

"I never took a shower, nor did I change clothes there," 28-year-old Long said. "I lived on coarse food made of corn flour and alike," the China Daily quoted Long, as saying.

Satyam Computer scandal rocks Indian parliament New Delhi  - A scandal at one of India's leading information technology companies, Satyam Computer, rocked the country's parliament on Tuesday, with several members demanding details of how the government was handling the case.

Ramalinga Raju, former chairman and founder of Satyam, said on January 9 that he had been falsifying the company's accounts for several years and had inflated assets by over 1 billion dollars.

Raju and two other senior officials of the company are currently in custody.
