Martin Luther King III calls Gandhi, King beacons of hope

New Delhi, Feb 17 : US civil rights leader Martin Luther King III and his delegation visited the Gandhi King Plaza at the India International Center here today.

Terming his visit to India as a rare honour, Martin Luther King III said he drew inspiration from Gandhi.

"We know that it only takes a few good women and men to bring change in the world. The world has a lot of difficult issues, but the examples of these two men show us what can be done if we are determined and dedicated," said Martin Luther King III.

Prominent American civil right activists and lawmakers including John Lewis, Congressman Spencer Bachus, Andrew Young and legendary jazz musician and Grammy winner Herbie Hancock are part of the delegation.

Government declares compensation for Mumbai attack victims

Sriprakash JaiswalNew Delhi, Feb 17 : The Government has declared a compensation for families of the 164 victims, including 22 security personnel, killed in the Mumbai terror attacks.

Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal informed on Tuesday that the legal heirs of the 22 martyrs of 26/11 strikes have been paid a compensation of Rs 25 lakh and the remaining legal heirs of the people killed in the tragedy have received Rs 5 lakh each.

The Maharashtra Government has also announced a compensation of Rs 50,000 each to the 233 injured persons.
