President condoles passing away of veteran film director Tapan Sinha

Tapan SinhaNew Delhi, Jan 15 : President Pratibha Patil has condoled the passing away of the famous veteran film director and recipient of the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, Tapan Sinha.

In her condolence message, the President has said, "An acclaimed film director Tapan Sinha shall always be remembered for his films such as `Kabuliwala' and `Ek Doctor Ki Maut', which touched on social issues of our times."

In his passing away, the nation has lost a creative personality and a legendary filmmaker, the President added.

Mumbai attacks, a test of India''s patience, says Army chief

Addressing a function at the Army Day parade here, General Kapoor described terrorism as the biggest challenge before the country.

"Terrorism is the only biggest challenge before us and the menace has engulfed the entire world. But India has been grappling with it for long. The recent Mumbai attacks were a test of India''s patience," said General Kapoor.

Satyam has not sought any government financial help

Satyam ComputerNew Delhi, Jan 15 : Corporate Affairs Minister Prem Chand Gupta today said the fraud-hit Satyam Computer Services has not sought any financial help from the government as the new board is working on reviving the company.

Talking to reporters after a meeting of the Cabinet here, Gupta said all clients of Satyam are AAA rated and have sufficient receivables.

Cabinet approves plan for ''Investigation of Water Resources Development Schemes''

India FlagNew Delhi, Jan 15 : The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today gave its approval for continuation of a plan for ''Investigation of Water Resources Development Schemes'' during the XI Plan having an outlay of Rs. 222.80 crore.

The outcome of the scheme will be in the form of detailed project reports of irrigation/multipurpose projects and river links under National Perspective Plan (NPP).

CCEA approves four laning of Cuddapah-Mydukur-Kurnool Highway

National Highway-18New Delhi, Jan 15 : The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today gave its approval for four laning of Cuddapah-Mydukur-Kurnool section (km 167.750 to km 356.030) of National Highway-18 in Andhra Pradesh.

Under the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase III, the project has been given on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (BOT/DBFOT) basis.

The project cost for four laning is estimated as Rs. 1754.12 crore including the cost of Land Acquisition (LA), Rehabilitation & Resettlement (R&R) and pre-construction.
