Mumbai attack a test of India's patience, says army chiefNew Delhi - The Mumbai terrorist attack was a test of India's patience and the army was ready to face any challenge posed by terrorism, Indian Army chief General Deepak Kapoor said Thursday.

"The attack on Mumbai was a test of our patience ... The only and biggest challenge before us is terrorism and we are ready to face this challenge," Kapoor was quoted at saying at 61st anniversary celebrations of the Indian Army's raising day

All options to tackle the menace of terrorism were open, Kapoor said, adding that India wanted to resolve these issues through peaceful means.

He said the army was always ready and capable of carrying out whatever task it is assigned by the government.

India has claimed that elements based in Pakistan were responsible for the terrorist attack on its financial hub in November that left more than 170 people dead.

The claims have led to heightened tension between the nuclear-capable South Asian neighbours who have fought three wars with each other since 1947.

Without naming Pakistan, Kapoor said all neighbours of India were facing challenges, which could pose threats to their security. "We have to remain vigilant against these threats if we have to progress and prosper," he said. (dpa)
