PakistanKarachi, Nov 10 : Karachi Mayor Syed Mustafa Kamal has won the distinction of being the world’s second best Mayor for the year 2008, for his innovative urban planning, courting foreign investment, encouraging international ties, and boosting the city''''s tourism.

American magazine Foreign Policy chose Mustafa Kamal, besides Berlin Mayor Klaus Wowereit and Wang Hongju, Mayor of Chongqing, who stood first and third, respectively.

Shoaib Malik says team united under his command

Shoaib MalikKarachi, Nov 10 : Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik has said that his entire team was united under his command ahead of the forthcoming ODI series against West Indies, from November 12-16.

He looked buoyed by fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar’s return in the team.

“We are completely united and the boys are eager to take the field against the West Indies. Shoaib is once again bowling at a good pace and his return will surely inspire the younger boys in the side,” The News quoted Malik as saying.

Jihadis flooding Pak cities with hate material CDs to boost recruitment driveKarachi, Nov 10 : CDs containing hate material like macabre documentaries of beheading and attacks, with “holy” tabla music in the background, are abundant and easily available across the shelf in Pakistani cities of Karachi, Quetta and Peshawar.

Such CDs, produced by international terrorist organization Al Qaeda, are mainly produced at Kabul, Qandahar, Jalalabad and Quetta, and later distributed on a wholesale basis in Pakistani town and cities.

“Nawaz still learning politics from Zardari”

Nawaz Sharif, Asif Ali ZardariLahore, Nov 10 : Punjab province Governor Salmaan Taseer has reportedly said that that PML-N leader and former premier Nawaz Sharif was still learning politics from President Asif Ali Zardari.

The Governor said that he himself had been in prison in the Lahore Fort along with Nawaz Sharif, and that no one could teach him about politics.

Taking a dig at Nawaz while replying to a question, Taseer said that Nawaz’s English had “improved” during his stay abroad.

“US policy on Pak to remain unchanged even after change in guard at White House”

Lahore, Nov 10 : US Consul General in Karachi Kay L Anske has said that despite the change in guard at the White House (on January 20), the US policy on Pakistan will not change.

After a meeting with Jamaat-e-Islami leaders in Karachi, Kay told media persons that the US presidential election was a part of a democratic process, and that a change in government did not necessarily translate into a change of policies.

Pakistan and the US had enjoyed good relations over the last 60 years, and the ties would be strengthened further in the future, the Daily Times quoted her as saying.

NATO jets bomb Khar Agency, 8 members of a banned outfit killed

Khar (Pakistan), Nov 10 : At least eight members of a banned terrorist outfit - Amar Bil Maroof - were killed and three injured in Pakistan’s Khar Agency when NATO jets bombed Tirah Valley in Khyber Agency last evening.

The NATO jets targeted hideouts of the banned outfit in the Moga area near Torkham. Amar Bil Maroof spokesman Munsif Afridi confirmed that those who had died were members of his group, the Daily Times quoted a TV report as saying.

He said that 10 Afghan soldiers had been killed in a gunbattle with his group at the Torkham border earlier in the day.
