‘Musharraf may use Article 58-2(b) if judges are restored’

Pakistan President Pervez MusharrafLahore, July 23 : Pakistan’s Former Foreign Minister and member Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Asif Ahmed Ali, today said even if the judges are restored through passing a resolution, President Pervez Musharraf will still have the option to use Article 58-2(b).

He said this while addressing a seminar organized by People’s Forum here at Lahore High Court on Wednesday.

In an article titled ‘Women’s Perceptions and Experiences of Sexual Violence in Marital Relationships and Its Effect on Reproductive Health’ that appeared in Health Care for Women International, experts, Rafat Hussain and Adeel Khan of the School of Health, University of New England, came up with approximately 40 hours of taped interviews, which included eight key informant interviews, three focus groups with 24 participants, and 10 in-depth interviews.

It accused the government of ignoring the parliament.

Addressing a ‘Meet the Press’ programme of the Hyderabad press club here on Tuesday, PML-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and secretary-general Mushahid Hussain Sayed said: “It is in fact a government in exile”.

Amnesty International asks Pak govt to reveal details about the missing persons

London, July 23 : In a new report, the international human rights body, the Amnesty International has demanded of the Pakistan government to immediately reveal details of the whereabouts of hundreds of the missing people over the past few years. It also called upon the federal government to investigate all cases and hold to account those responsible, including the country’s security and intelligence agencies.

It also demanded that Pakistan’s new government reinstate deposed judges who had previously been investigating cases involving the missing people.

The report is the latest in an ongoing campaign by Amnesty International to end the practice of enforced disappearances worldwide.

United Nations, July 23 :Pak govt ready to bear Rs 700 crore for UN probe in Benazir murder If sources at the United Nations are to be believed, Pakistan government has assured the international body that it will provide all the money required for an investigation into the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

The investigation could cost Pakistan more than 100 million US dollars (approx Rs 700 crore Pakistani rupees) and might take up to 14 months to complete.
