No indemnity to ‘November 3’ actions of Musharraf: Raza Rabbani

Peshawar, July 26 : Ruling coalition partners in Pakistan have agreed not to give any indemnity to the ‘November 3’ actions of President Pervez Musharraf, said Raza Rabbani, Leader of the House in the Senate.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Rabbani said, “Musharraf has no right to address joint session of the Parliament as he has no role in the country’s politics and affairs of the government.”

“Musharraf should have resigned after February 18 polls as the people had rejected his government’s policies,” he added.

40 al Qaeda commanders held in Pakistan

Islamabad, July 26 : Around 40 commanders of al Qaeda including Amjad and Rafi were arrested during the operations in Hangu and Bara, while 17 security personnel were killed, said Rehman Malik, Adviser to Pakistan Prime Minister.

The Daily Times quoted him as saying that suicide attacks had come to “zero level” in Punjab and Sindh, and that such attacks were down by 80 percent in the restive North West Frontier Province.

He also said the operation in the Hangu District had been carried out successfully and desired objectives had been achieved with the minimum use of force.

No one has power to dissolve assemblies: Pak PM

Yousuf Raza GilaniIslamabad, July 25 : Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Reza Gillani said on Friday in unequivocal terms “no one has the power to dissolve the country''s assemblies.”

Talking to reporters here, the Prime Minister said all the issues including judges restoration and President’s impeachment will be resolved in the Parliament.

He said unlike previous governments, the purpose of his scheduled visit to the US is not to strike any kind of deal. All the decisions will be made for the greater interest of the country, Gilani added.

Militants release eight kidnapped Pakistani officials

Baitullah MehsudIslamabad militants on Friday freed eight of 29 kidnapped government officials in north-western Pakistan after mediation by tribesmen.

Heavily armed rebels, believed to be linked with top Pakistani Taliban commander Baitullah Mehsud, seized the officials two weeks ago from different areas of the restive district in North-West Frontier Province after security forces detained seven of their comrades.

New UAE visa rules likely to affect Indians, Pakistanis and Nepalis

Dubai, July 25 : New visit visa regulations introduced by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Government will affect job seekers coming from India, Pakistan, Nepal and the Philippines the most.

The Gulf News quoted Umesh Awadramani, Business Development Manager, Careerline recruitment agency, as saying that these nationalities would be particularly affected by the new rules, and warned of labour shortages.

"People coming to look for a job in the UAE from India, Pakistan, Nepal, the Philippines and Bangladesh now won''t be able to come - there will be less people from these countries coming to the UAE to look for work,” he said.
