Pakistan to resist shifting of Davis Cup tie to ManilaIslamabad, Mar 13 : Pakistan has vowed to resist any attempt to shift their Davis Cup tennis home tie against Philippines to a neutral venue or Manila over security concerns.

The Philippine Lawn Tennis Association reportedly made the request in a letter to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) citing the March 3 militant attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team, as reason for shifting the venue.

Philippines is scheduled to play Pakistan in Asia Oceania Group II on July 10-12 in Lahore, The News reported.

US rules out military coup in Pakistan

Washington, Mar 13: Extremely concerned by the political crisis in Pakistan, the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Admiral Michael Mullen, believes that there is no probability of military coup in that country as Pervez Musharraf did in October 1999.

In an interview with PBS’s Charlie Rose, Admiral Mullen said he doesn’t believe there is a “high probability right now” of the crisis prompting Pakistan’s military to intervene.

He said his Pakistani counterpart, General Ashfaq Kayani, is “committed to a civilian government” and doesn’t want to take over as his predecessor Musharraf did in 1999.

Mullen said General Kayani is stanch supporter of democracy and does not want a military coup in the country.

Washington, Mar 13: Radio Khyber provides an alternative to hardline Islamic broadcasts with a medley of local news, talk shows, and music in Pakistan’s Tribal Areas that border Afghanistan.

Airwaves in this region are filled with the illegal broadcasts of the “FM Mullahs” who preach about the holy war and of recruiting fighters, The Christian Science Monitor reports.

Kishwar is one of 15 reporters for Radio Khyber, a rare non-extremist station broadcasting in the town of Jamrud, in the militant stronghold of Pakistan’s northwestern tribal areas.

Qureshi says 67 Pakistanis were held at Guantanamo BayIslamabad, Mar. 13: A total of 67 Pakistanis were held at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has told the National Assembly.

Qureshi informed that 62 of 67 detainees had been released due to Pakistan's constant efforts.

Following the 9/11 terror attacks, scores of Pakistanis were picked up by local law enforcement agencies and handed over to the US authorities, and 67 of them ended up at the Guantanamo Bay, The Dawn reports.
