Islamabad, Aug 11: In a video tape released last evening, Al Qaeda No 2 Ayman al-Zawahiri has reportedly criticised Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf for playing in the hands of the Americans and compromising with Pakistan''s sovereignty by allowing US’ intelligence agencies to operate from its soil.

Washington, Aug 10: Pakistan’s cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has said that no educated Muslim in his country could possibly support the Taliban (Tehreek-e-Taliban) or their ‘narrow interpretation’ of Islam.

Addressing press persons during his visit to Washington to raise funds for his charitable causes, Imran said that in the 1400 years of Islamic history, “no Islamic state had been run on the basis of theocracy”.

Islamabad, Aug 10 : The ‘draft committee’ of the PPP-led ruling coalition has ‘almost finalised’ the charge-sheet against President Pervez Musharraf and the parliamentary resolutions asking him to get a vote-of-confidence, said the country’s Information Minister and senior PPP leader Sherry Rehman.

After attending the meeting of the “draft committee”, Sherry said Musharraf had “subverted” the constitution and that the whole nation was “aware of the charge-sheet against him”.

Islamabad, Aug 10 : Sources close to Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf have said that he will not use Article 58(2b) (related to dissolving the Assemblies), and will wait for the ruling coalition’s charge-sheet against him before deciding his future course of action.

According to these sources, the President said this at a meeting with PML-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. On the occasion, the latter asked the President to avoid using Article 58(2b) to dissolve the Assemblies and to opt for resignation if he did not want to face the charges.

Mingora (NWFP), Aug 10 : The Pakistan unit of the Taliban – Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) has warned MPs against voting for President Pervez Musharraf during the Impeachment Motion tomorrow, saying anyone voting for Musharraf would be their “next target”.

TTP spokesman Muslim Khan said that Musharraf was ‘responsible’ for the present spate of violence in the Tribal Areas and NWFP.

Islamabad, Aug 10 : PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has reportedly said that the ruling coalition had the support of more than 300 parliamentarians, nearly 350, in both the National Assembly and the Senate, to impeach President Pervez Musharraf.

The Impeachment Motion against Musharraf is likely to be tabled in Pakistan parliament tomorrow.
