Death toll mounts to 38 in riot-hit Karachi

PakistanKarachi, Dec. 1 : At least 38 people were killed and over 100 have been injured in three days’ of violence that erupted on Saturday here.

Dozens of vehicles were torched in different areas, while unknown miscreants continued to damage public and private properties in the city.

The situation is still not under control. Law enforcement agencies have been put on high alert, Geo TV reported.

Mumbai terrorist says he was ordered to “kill until the last breath’

Commandos, militants clash in MumbaiLondon, Dec 1 : The sole terrorist captured alive in the Mumbai carnage has reportedly told police that he was trained in Pakistan and ordered to “kill until the last breath”.

According to a report in the Times, a leaked account of the interrogation of Azam Amir Kasab, 21, a Pakistani national, has revealed that the terror strikes, which left nearly
200 dead, were intended to kill as many as 5,000 people.

Two killed in militant attack on NATO supplies in Pakistan

Pakistan MapIslamabad - Islamist militants on Monday mounted an attack on a parking bay in Pakistan's north-western city of Peshawar, killing two people and destroying a dozen trucks loaded with supplies for NATO troops in Afghanistan, police said.

The attackers initially fired gunshots inside the privately owned Faisal terminal, which was later rocked by at least three explosions believed to have been caused by rockets, police officer Fazal Mohammad Khan said.

"Two people inside the compound were killed while two more were wounded," Khan said by phone from Pushtakhra area in Peshawar.

Acid attacks commonly used to terrorise Pak women

Washington, Dec 1: Acid attacks are commonly used to terrorise and subjugate women in many parts of Asia, including Pakistan, the New York Times has said.

Naeema Azar, whom Nicholas Kristoff interviewed, and who had once been an attractive, self-confident real estate agent, had acid thrown at her, blinding her and burning most of her face.

Shahnaz Bukhari, a Pakistani activist who founded an organisation to help such women, has helped her, the Daily Times reported.

Naeema’s huband, Azar Jamsheed, who disfigured her, escaped and has never been arrested.

‘Pak involvement in Mumbai attacks very provocative for India, if proved’

Washington, Dec 1: A panel of US experts have ruled out the possibility of Pakistani involvement in the Mumbai attacks that killed 195 people, but said it would be very provocative for India if Pakistan’s involvement is proved.

Peter Bergen, CNN expert on terrorism, said if the Mumbai attacks were found to have linkages with ‘rogue’ elements in the Pakistani military intelligence agency that would ‘change the game’.

He recalled that India had accused Pakistani agencies of being behind the attack on the Indian embassy in Kabul and if similar involvement of such elements were discovered, that would be “very provocative as far as India is concerned.”

Suicide attack on security post kills nine civilians in Pakistan Islamabad  - A suicide bomber attacked a security checkpoint Monday in Pakistan's restive Swat valley, killing at least nine people and injuring around two dozen more, a military officer said.

The attacker drove an explosives-laden car that he detonated next to a check post in Sanghota village about 8 am (0300 GMT) during a break in a curfew clamped on the area.

"All of those killed in the attack were civilians," the officer said on condition of anonymity.
