Pakistan questions terror suspects, air forces on alert

Yousaf Raza GilaniIslamabad - Pakistan's prime minister Wednesday said the two top leaders of an Islamic militant group that India believes was behind the November 26 terrorist attacks in Mumbai were being questioned by police.

Yousaf Raza Gilani said Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi and Zarar Shah, were detained in a raid this week at the offices of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

According to Indian officials, the lone surviving attacker in the Mumbai siege, which left 172 people dead and more than 300 injured, had identified LeT chief Lakhvi as the mastermind.

Pak ready to send a high level delegation to India to normalize situation

India, PakistanMultan, Dec 10 : Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Wednesday that Pakistan was ready to send a high level delegation to India to normalize the situation.

Gilani said that Pakistan has begun investigations after taking some leaders and members of banned outfits in custody, adding that it was a good gesture Pakistan has shown to the whole world including the neighbouring country. Law will take its own course in the light of investigations, he added.

Gilani said that as far as the Indian intelligence is concerned, whatever information or list they send, we would investigate it, The News reported.

Pakistan navy and air force put on high alertIslamabad, Dec 10 : Pakistan has put its navy and air force on high alert in wake of the Indian Air Force alert in response to heightened perceptions of air attacks.

The alert has been sounded in view of intelligence reports of air strikes at Indian installations from across the border or an aerial attack by terrorists groups based in Pakistan.

However, the alert is still defensive in nature and intended to protect Indian targets.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) spokesman has said that Pakistan was ready to give a crushing reply to any aggression.

Gilani confirms arrest of two Lashkar members

Yousaf Raza GillaniMultan, Dec. 10 : Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani confirmed on Wednesday that two senior members of Lashkar-e-Taiba have been arrested.

"The two have been arrested and an investigation is under way," the Dawn quoted Gilani as telling journalists in response to a question about Lashkar members Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi and Zarar Shah.

Gilani said the two, who are both senior members of the banned group, were being questioned.

Pak NSA says Jamaat ud Dawa will be banned, if evidences against it is found

Islamabad, Dec. 10: Pakistan's National Security Advisor Mahmood Ali Durrani has said that if evidence is found against the Jamaat ud Dawa, the political wing of the Lashkar-e-Toiba, in connection with last month's terror attacks in Mumbai, then it would be banned.

He told Geo News that if any evidence is found against any organization during the investigations, then the same would also be banned.

Durrani''s statement came a day after Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Abdullah Hussain Haroon, echoed similar sentiments.

Talking to reporters at the UN headquarters in New York, Ambassador Haroon confirmed that India has approached to UN Security Council to get Jamaat-ud-Dawa banned.

India, Pakistan nukes secure: PentagonWashington, Dec. 10 : The Pentagon has expressed confidence that both India and Pakistan''s nuclear arsenals remain secure despite tensions over the recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

"We see no reason at this point to have any concern with regards to the security of either countries'' arsenal," The News quoted Geoff Morrell, the Pentagon press secretary, as saying.

Morrell, who did not elaborate, made the comment in response to a question at a news conference about the risk terrorists could obtain nuclear weapons in the current crisis.
