Pak to move WB for water compensation from India

Islamabad, Nov 20 : Indus Water Commissioner Jamaat Ali Shah has said that Pakistan will move the World Bank to seek compensation from India for reduced water flow in the Chenab River and design defects in Baglihar Dam. The World Bank had appointed an intermediary between India and Pakistan to resolve the Baglihar Dam row.

Shah said Pakistan had demanded water, not monetary compensation, from India for the losses incurred due to decreased water flow in the Chenab.

Both countries had exchanged data about the water flow in the Chenab River during his recent visit to India, but India had objected to the data compiled by Pakistan and asked for a visit to Marala Headworks for inspecting the water flow, the Daily Times quoted him as saying.

Pak PM to announce new incentives for cricketers

Islamabad, Nov 20 : Buoyed by the recent 3-0 win over the Caribbeans, Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani is today expected to announce fresh incentives for cricketers who will perform outstandingly in future international contests.

The announcement is expected to come after PCB Chairman Ejaz Butt meets the PM at the PM House.

Sources close to the PM said that Gilani, who himself is a keen sportsman and has special affection for cricket, would discuss the affairs of the cricket with its new Chairman, who has produced “positive” results immediate after assuming the office last month, reported The News.

6 killed in first suspected US drone strike outside FATA

Miranshah (NWFP), Nov 20 : In what is being described as the first drone attack outside the tribal areas, six persons, including a major Arab Al Qaeda operative, in an overnight missile strike by a suspected US drone in Bannu district of NWFP.

A senior security official reportedly said that the suspected US drone attack came despite repeated warnings from Pakistan that such attacks were in violation of international law and Pakistan’s sovereignty.

Security sources identified the Al Qaeda terrorist who died in the attack as Abdullah Azam Al-Saudi, who they said US intelligence officials had identified as the main link between Al Qaeda’s senior command and Taliban networks in the Pakistani border region.

US airstrike, Pakistani security actions leave 25 dead

Islamabad  - Four Islamic militants were killed Wednesday in a missile strike by a suspected pilotless US aircraft, while 17 Taliban and four civilians died in actions by local security forces in north-west Pakistan, officials and media reports said.

One of the two missiles fired presumably by a US drone hit a house in the Jani Khel semi-tribal area of the Bannu district in the North-West Frontier Province (NWFP).

The pre-dawn airstrike destroyed a mud compound that belonged to a Taliban militant named Dilber, alias Parpand, a local intelligence official told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa, on the condition of anonymity.
