HP slashes salaries to cope with downturn San Francisco  - A day after reporting a 13 per cent drop in profits, computer and printing giant HP announced a company-wide pay cut which it said was the best alternative to widespread job cuts.

The world's largest personal-computer maker said it will reduce the salary of CEO Mark Hurd's by 20 per cent, executives' pay by 10 per cent to 15 per cent, and most employees' salaries by 5 percent.

Poland, US sign deal on special forces cooperation

PolandWarsaw - Polish and US officials signed a deal Thursday designed to increase cooperation between Polish and American special forces in their fight against global terrorism.

Polish Defence Minister Bogdan Klich and US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates signed the memorandum of understanding on the sidelines of a NATO meeting in Krakow.

Klich called the memo a "milestone" on the road to strengthening Polish special forces in modern operations.

"I think the value of this agreement will be shortly tested out during operations in Afghanistan," Klich said.

"I didn''t expect to end up working for the man who defeated me in last year''s Democratic primaries," the Washington Times quoted, Clinton, as saying.

Addressing a gathering of civil society leaders in Jakarta, she said: "In elections, there are winners and losers, and the losers should acknowledge their defeat and either move on, or try to bring about change by other peaceful means."

Interim chairman Jerome Kern said that Playboy Enterprises is open to listening to sale offers.

Kern was named non-executive chairman after Christie Hefner resigned in December, ending two decades running the magazine empire her father, Hugh, started in 1953.

Hugh Hefner still keeps an eye on every aspect of Playboy magazine as the top editor, from the lengthy articles to the jokes page, cartoons and the air-brushing of the nude layouts.
