Malaysian police arrest 27 in clash with squatters Kuala Lumpur - Malaysian police detained 27 protestors after a scuffle broke out during the demolition of several houses in a squatter community, news report said Friday.

The crowd, made up of residents of the squatter colony in the southern state of Johor and social activists, had gathered Thursday at the road leading to the village to protest the demolition of houses there amid a heavy police presence.

Kuala Lumpur, Oct. 15 : Three Hindu Rights Action Force (HINDRAF) leaders were questioned by police on Tuesday on the alleged "illegal assembly" at the Muslim ministers'' Hari Raya open house at the Putra World Trade Centre earlier this month.

According to a New Strait Times report, S. Jayathas, K. Selvam and K. Santhi, who is the wife of the movement''s chairman P. Waythamoorthy, were questioned at the Dang Wangi police headquarters.

They entered the police station about 3 p. m. local times accompanied by their lawyers N. Surendran and Latheefa Koya.

Malaysia, India to sign pact on workers

Malaysia cuts fuel prices

Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia announced Tuesday it will cut retail fuel prices for the third time in three months, following a dip in world oil prices.

From Wednesday, the retail price of petrol will be reduced by 6 per cent to 2.30 ringgit (0.69 cents) and diesel will be cut by 8 per cent to 2.20 ringgit (0.73 cents), said Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

The price cut was due to a marked drop in world oil prices, Abdullah said in a statement.

The reduction in the price of gasoline and diesel is the third in three months, after the government raised pump prices by a whopping 41 per cent for petrol and 63 per cent for diesel in June.
