Kuala Lumpur - Malaysian marine police have detained 43 Indonesians for attempting to enter the country illegally by boat in the eastern Sabah state on Borneo island, an official news report said Tuesday.
Police detained the immigrants early Tuesday during river patrols, said district marine police chief Husaini Zainal Abidin.
"A check on a boat found that the passengers comprising 14 men, 13 women and eight children had no travel documents," Husaini was quoted as saying by the official Bernama news agency.
He said eight others who did have travel documents were also detained for further questioning.
The 21-year-old boat captain and his two assistants, all believed to be Malaysian, were also detained.

Bangkok - Thailand's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has ordered a nationwide ban on the sale of three snack products imported from China and Malaysia after they were found to contain excessive levels of melamine, reports said Saturday.
The banned items included Chinese-made Hajuku brand strawberry cream stick biscuits, Chinese-made Koala chocolate cream biscuits and Malaysian-made Julie's peanut cream crackers, all of which contained more than the safety limit of 2.5 milligrams per kilogram, Thai News Agency reported.
FDA secretary general Pipat Yingseri ordered retailers to remove the items from their shelves nationwide.

Putrajaya (Malaysia), Oct 25 : The ten supporters of the outlawed Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf), who were arrested for gathering outside the prime minister''s office on Thursday, face a maximum five years'' imprisonment if convicted under the Societies Act 1966, reports nstonline. com.
Those convicted could also be slapped with a maximum fine of RM15000 under section 48 of the Act.
Yesterday, they were produced before magistrate Nurdiana Mohd Nazir who allowed the police to detain them up till Oct 26 to carry out investigations, added the report.
Earlier, investigating officer ASP Rajali Agong applied to the court for a 14-day remand order to enable police to find out the motives of the assembly and who the organisers were.
