Talent scarcity crimps IT's growth- Says Narayana Murthy

Infosys-Narayana-MurthyToday, most of the engineering graduates that are hired by the IT-sector come from the non-computer science backgrounds like electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and civil engineering.

This is due to the dearth of computer science engineers in the nation, thereby forcing even the very successful IT-sector to opt for alternative engineering backgrounds. This has been said by the founder of Infosys, Mr. Narayana Murthy.

It is unfortunate that at this juncture, where the country is on a path to steady economic growth and only computer science people should be taken, engineers belonging to other fields are being selected.

In just the previous year, around 20,000 - 22,000 engineers were taken by Infosys who hailed from non-computer science backgrounds.

The only solution that comes to mind at present is to ensure that the state government, central government, and other inter-state institutes are provided with ample opportunities to start more and more institutes that focus on technology education, just like the International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore (IIIT-B).

In the convocation that was held in IIIT-B, it was pointed out that India, after centuries, was actually in an economic environment. This indeed raises hope and confidence that India's poverty can be overcome with a better future for every citizen.
