Sultan awarded honorary PhD from British Sheffield University
Sheffield, Nov. 11th, 2008 --The British Sheffield University has honoured HH Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council member and ruler of Sharjah by awarding him honorary PhD in Arts in appreciation for his efforts in spreading Arab and Islamic culture and civilisation, as well as extending cooperation among different cultures and civilisations.
Sheffield University, which was established in 1828, is the latest university to honour Sheikh Sultan as one of the prominent Arab figures who enjoy reputation for the active role in promotion of education, culture and arts in the UAE. The honorary ceremony coincided with the show of play 'Nimrod' written by Sheikh Sultan. It was performed in English language by the Sheffield University students.
Written by the Ruler of Sharjah, Nimrod is a parable on unrestricted power and dramatises the rise of King Nimrod and the construction of the Tower of Babel.
Sheikh Sultan thanked University of Sheffield on the honorary vested on him, citing publicity of University of Sheffield worldwide. (WAM/MN)
