Spectacular win over Sri Lanka leads India to the top ICC ranking
India has created history in the Mumbai's Brabourne stadium by beating Sri Lanka by an inning and runs in the second test in test series. With this win India has captured the series by 2-0 and has occupied the no. 1 position in the ICC rankings.
In this test, Virender Sehwag and Zaheer khan have been key players who have done the maximum damage to the Sri Lankan side. Virender Sehwag scored a terrific knock of 293 runs missing his triple hundred from just seven runs, and Zaheer Khan picking a five wicket haul for the eighth time in his career, helped Indian team.
The moment that spread cheers all around the Indian camp was when the Sri Lanka's last wicket fell in the form of Muthaiya Murlitharan, who was caught behind by M S Dhoni on one of the ball of spinner Harbhajan Singh. The delighted Sachin Tendulkar called all his team supporting staff and the extra players to celebrate the moment in the presentation ceremony.
Sachin has stated that he was very happy at being the member of the no. 1 team in the test cricket, a moment which he has first time witnessed in 20 years of his international cricket career.
The skipper M S Dhoni has stated that the team was not playing cricket for the rankings. He further said, "It was a constant process for the last 18 months. Whatever Test cricket we have played we have played really well."
