Social enterprises growing fast in UK
A recent report says that the social enterprises of UK which do the business trading for social or environmental purposes have bucked in the recent recession. A study by business information service of Social Enterprise has suggested that such firms grew an average of 79% in this year till March.
The report was conducted by the Royal Bank of Scotland and it has informed that the firms at the south-east England have seen the biggest growth up to 56%.
The growth rate at the East Midlands was the worst with only growth of just 15%. The social enterprises firms include the fair-trade chocolate company Divine Chocolate, Big Issue and restaurant Fifteen of Jamie Oliver. Firms in the environment, renewable and recycling industries have reported the highest growth rates.
Royal Bank of Scotland and Social Enterprises has compiled the data from the information given by at least 350 social business firms across the UK. This study has done because of the first publication of an index which would be a tracking record of the growth of the 100 top social businesses in the UK, named as RBS SE100. The RBS SE100 is a very useful tool to track the success and potential of social enterprises.
